Iran next on cook around the world.
I should be doing Cambodia but can’t get organised (as I’ll need fish) so went for this prune, beef and spinach khoresh (?) to keep ticking places off.
It is sort of similar to tagine.., sweet, savoury and sour, it doesn’t sound like it will be nice but once you get into it it’s nice.
Prunes will always remind me of boys camp in Castlerock. It’s breakfast, it’s July, there is a man called Bryce standing with a ladle near some prunes.. he’s shouting
‘Some prunes boys? Loosen you up..’
Dates

getting myself some eat my way around the world goods…(Iove going into ethnic food shops and looking around, it’s a nice change from Knocknacarra!)
This week I’ve fallen into a date rabbit hole, I never realised there are varieties which is pretty obvious
I tried some deglet noor from Tunisia the other night and they were grand,
but I just tried some from Iran called mazafati (I think) and much preferred them. They’re softer and juicier.
There was a box of Saudi dates that was too big to bring home, but I’ll try them as well.
