An eat, drink and map my way around the world triple header and today we’re doing Uruguay,
First up, this tinned mince pie which I picked up in Dealz.
‘Fray Bentos The Fray Bentos food brand is associated with tinned processed meat products, originally corned beef and later meat pies. ….Created in the second half of the 19th century, the name is derived from the port of Fray Bentos in Uruguay where the products were originally processed and packaged ‘
I love pie…but I’m not sure I could say I loved this. Still not completely awful either
Second up, a nice bottle of Uruguay red wine from Woodberry’s Wine…. It’s a Tannat grape which would have been brought over to Uruguay by Basque settlers.
It probably deserves to be matched with something better than a Frey Bentos tinned mince pie from Dealz
Thirdly, a go at a ‘chivito’, (“little goat”)…the national dish of Uruguay.
Basically a sandwich with steak, ham, egg, bacon (I left it out), mozzarella, lettuce, pepper, tomato… probably something else I’ve forgotten to mention.
yeah, tasty but you wouldn’t want to be eating it everyday!
